Owner/Clinician
Welcome to Open Water Wellness, PLLC, where “New beginnings with endless horizons” serve as our guiding philosophy. I’m Karen Kaminski-Esala, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and the proud owner of this practice. Much like the image of the sun setting over the horizon of the beautiful Crystal Coast, our approach embodies the warmth of the rising sun, casting a golden glow on the possibilities that lie ahead.
My journey in the field of mental health started as a school counselor, working in Virginia’s public-school system and with the Department of Defense Education Activity at Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, NC. These experiences created a desire to provide educational advocacy by raising awareness about personal accommodations and modifications in learning environments. Today, I continue to contribute to the educational community as an adjunct faculty member at Coastal Carolina Community College in Jacksonville, NC.
I am committed to making a positive impact on the lives of others, especially the military population, children, adolescents, and families. “New beginnings” represent our shared opportunity to leave behind what no longer serves us, to embrace change, and to paint our canvases with bold, vibrant strokes. Just as “endless horizons” symbolize limitless potential, we are standing in the face of uncharted territories, where dreams await chasing and goals are ready to be achieved.
In founding Open Water Wellness, PLLC, I aim to provide a nurturing environment where individuals and families can find the support and guidance needed to navigate life’s challenges. Our approach is characterized by compassion, empathy, and a person-centered philosophy, empowering individuals to reach their highest potential.
My professional journey has equipped me to work extensively with individuals seeking support for depression, anxiety, and perinatal mental health care. Just like the sunrise over the horizon, I believe that your determination and perseverance will light the way through challenges, leading to personal growth.
Thank you for considering Open Water Wellness, PLLC. We look forward to being a part of your journey toward a healthier, happier, and more fulfilled life, where “new beginnings” are embraced, and “endless horizons” await your exploration.

I am Katie, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker-Associate originally from Pittsburgh and now based in North Carolina. My journey in psychology and family development began at the University of Dayton, where I earned my Bachelor’s degree. Carlow University was where I pursued my Master of Social Work, fueled by a determination to make a difference in the lives of those I serve.
Having relocated in 2022, my passion lies in fostering the growth of individuals beyond the constraints of their experiences. Specializing in working with children and adolescents, I bring dedication to my role, addressing issues such as depression, anxiety, behavioral challenges, and trauma across diverse populations. My toolkit includes crisis management and intervention techniques honed through experiences in school systems, communities, and inpatient hospital settings.
My goal is to raise awareness in individuals about their behaviors, thoughts, patterns, and feelings, providing much-needed support and ongoing advocacy. I believe in partnering with my clients to build flexibility and problem-solving skills, developing lasting solutions to challenging behaviors. In every interaction, I strive to contribute to the well-being of others, guided by a relentless desire to learn and positively impact the lives of those I work with.

Hey there, I’m Mandy, and I’m all about diving into the world of counseling to help kids discover their awesome potential. Growing up can be a real adventure, especially in today’s world, so I’m all about being that friendly face and listening ear for young ones, teens, and young adults as they navigate life’s twists and turns.
A bit about me: I’m currently rocking the role of a part-time school counselor, proudly carrying the title of Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHC-A). Plus, I’m a Nationally Certified Counselor with over 25 years of experience hanging out with kiddos in various capacities. Every morning, I’m psyched to jump into my day, getting to know my clients and cheering them on to greatness.
What keeps me going? Making a positive impact and helping others. There’s nothing like the joy of seeing someone I’ve supported hit a goal or take a big step in their personal growth journey. It’s the good stuff in life.
Now, let’s talk approach. Mental health is a big deal, and finding the right support is key. I’m all about treating the whole person – it’s like how a doctor wouldn’t just tackle a fever without figuring out what’s causing it. Counseling is a similar deal; we dig deep to uncover what might be holding us back from being our absolute best.
Ready to kick off your own journey of self-discovery? If you or your kiddo are up for it, don’t be shy – reach out, and let’s set up a time to chat. I’m here to be your biggest cheerleader every step of the way!
